PC Ian Dibell

As many of you will know after the tragic murder of PC Ian Dibell I was keen to see the thousands of us on twitter who wished to show a mark of respect to coordinate together in one national online tribute. I have been in close consultation with the Essex Police corporate communications team and I stressed that at all times the sole intention was to create a tribute that fitted with the families wishes and nothing more.

The families wishes were for a quiet and dignified funeral and today a memorial service. You may have noticed that there was no further update from me on progress. This was to ensure the families wishes were met and I have fully respected that decision.

Ian lost his life upholding the finest traditions of the British police service and his loss is felt across the service. As police officers we all know we are likely to have done the same and can think of situations where we have acted and were fortunate enough not to suffer the consequences Ian did.

Ian, you are a hero. We salute you. May you rest in peace. Never forgotten.

Into the freedom of the wind and sunshine
We let you go
Into the dance of the stars and the planets
We let you go
Into the wind’s breath and the hands of the star maker
We let you go
We love you, we miss you, we want you to be happy
Go safely, go dancing, go running home.
